The Flame of the Heart

The above is a book by Torkom Saraydarian that has provided the inspiration for me to start on this venture to seek the possibility of looking at life form a different perspective.  I have a myriad of questions;

What if we really have a source of connection and love for everyone and everything on earth (and possibly more)?

What if I am able to find a source of peace in the turmoil of the world?

What if I am able to have a positive influence that affects the world just by changing my actions and thoughts?

In this book Torkom addresses these questions with a formula for finding the answers by extolling the virtues that will make these very connections possible.

It may be just me, but by even suggesting someone to look at working on virtues seems so out of tune with the high paced, technological/scientific world we live in.  However I am sure I am not alone in thinking that perhaps this may be part of the problem?

One Life

During the week I went to see the film 'One Life'.  This film highlighted the heroic actions of Nicolas Winton during the second world war.  Without being a show spoiler it details how he (and a small group of friends) managed to lead hundreds of children from Czechoslovakia to safety in Britain before their country was invaded by the Germans.

It highlighted the two extremes of human behaviour, from the very base to the (almost) ultimate sacrifice.  I rarely find movies so powerful and it had a draining affect on me for quite a while  as I reflected what this means to me in the present time. It is said that we all have the capacity for these extremes and I suppose it has spurred my commitment to a year lived in the heart as a form of protection against falling into this shallow, inhumane pit.

I was also struck by the title 'One Life' or for me translated as 'One Being'.  The premise in the film is that, all the sacrifice would have been worthwhile if they saved just one life.  Perhaps the one life we have to save (sacrifice) is our own (not physically but in a higher sense).  If we all saved our own lives for a higher purpose, would wars still be able to continue?
